When We Travel — Wichita Wedding Photographer

Family-Portrait-Photography-in-Wichita_0506

Jay and Becca Dill run a business just like Patrick and I do — they do it together.

These two, together since 1999 and married since 2002, own and operate The Travel Junkie, LLC in Wichita Kansas. This AWESOME travel agency opened in 2009 and has grown into a premier, leading local company because of the education and skills of Jay and Becca and their staff.

Why use a travel agency? Because you can spend hours researching, searching and trying to learn what they already know. And when you book your own travel — you’re on your own. Are you equipped with the backup resources and knowledge you’ll need when travel plans go sideways? And really, with travel plans at no additional cost to you, why wouldn’t you use Travel Junkie?

Family-Portrait-Photography-in-Wichita_0502

Patrick and I have used The Travel Junkie, LLC for two destination weddings. And we just used them to book travel for an upcoming destination wedding in Hawaii this coming January. One of the weddings they arranged travel for was in Verona, Italy. Car rental information, train schedules, and hotel information is often posted in a country’s native language. Patrick and I never had to worry about any details that could have seriously derailed our plans had we tried to book these accommodations on our own. That kind of peace of mind? Priceless. AND there are no extra fees involved in using The Travel Junkie. We have become such believers in the quality of service offered by this company that we use them even week booking short trips to Kansas City.

On a personal level, we know these people. And we know many other people who know them. And we trust them. Jay is the outgoing, warm and hilarious hand shaker. Becca is quietly sweet and a force of nature in the office. She is also hilarious, you just have to listen closely. They love being around each other and it shows. They love their two daschunds, McGyver and Ciao, traveling (duh! :), The Walking Dead, eating healthful and spending time with family and friends.

So if Patrick and I were to offer you some advice it would go as follows: 1) Plan to take a trip. Seriously. What are you waiting for? 2) Have a skilled professional arrange the details of your travel. 3) Pack lightly. 4) Skip the tourist trap and choose, instead, the quiet place the locals love to visit, or eat at, or relax near. 5) Soak in all the new memories. 6) Take lots of pictures!

Wichita Wedding Photographers: A Country Wedding

It was all about the simple joy of marrying your best friend. Then kicking your heels up afterward! Wayne and Lisa tied the knot on a beach in Hawaii. But several weeks later they celebrated their marriage with loved ones at the Round Barn in Derby, Kansas. It was an elegant barn dance.

The wedding party willingly tromped out to the pasture for photos… and we LOVED that shoot. So much fun!

Fresh air. Green fields. Blue sky with just the right amount of white fluffy clouds. Family. Friends. Laughter and dancing. The only thing that made this day better was capturing a bride and her besties wearing cowgirl boots underneath their gowns.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs!

Wichita Senior Photographers: Eva

So… Last fall our middle daughter told us that one of her coworkers needed a mentor for her Senior Project at North High School. And that this girl had chosen the field of photography. We suspected that if our daughter, who has a keen BS detector built-in, vouched for this coworker, she must be good as gold.

Annnnnnd… Jackpot! Eva quickly became a good friend and valued asset to our studio. As soon as her school project concluded we took her on as an intern. She accompanies us at portrait sessions and weddings and always performs beautifully.

As you can see, she is beautiful as well as talented. In a week, Eva will graduate from North High. In the fall she will attend Wichita State University to pursue a degree in business. Eva, as the cool kids say, (or used to say), has it going on.

Eva, Eva Bo-Beva! You Rock! And we hope we know you for many years! Best of luck in all you pursue.

Wichita Family Photographers: Color Bomb Dropped on Wichita!

2013-05-05_0001.jpg

Sedgwick County Park was overrun yesterday with a magenta fog.

2013-05-05_0002.jpg

Runners in tutus, colorful sunglasses and crazy socks participated in Color Me Rad’s Wichita race. Runners begin the race in clean white clothing which soon becomes color-splattered.

It was chilly and drizzly but this did not dampen the excitement and enthusiasm of the runners.

Wichita Family Photographers: Dog-n-Jog

20130420_WICHITA_FAMILY_PHOTOGRAPHERS_0001.jpg

On Saturday morning, Sedgwick County Park was awash with joggers — both canine and human. Indian Hills Animal Clinic has hosted this event and donated proceeds to the Kansas Humane Society for 3 years now. This was our first time attending. But we’ll be back. 🙂

We did not run. Maybe next year. This year we mingled with: Gucci and Grace, Little Bit, Jonah, Jewels and Hallie, among others.

As with another fundraiser we attend each fall, Woofstock, we notice and love the energy present when so many people are gathered with their dogs. It’s a happy vibe!

The woman with Gucci and Grace (pictured in tutus) and Little Bit, seemed familiar. Turns out she was the adoption counselor who helped us bring our girl Lexi home three years ago. Today our paths crossed and we are featuring her dogs in our blog. Pets — they bring richness to our lives even in ways we would never predict.

Rebounding

2013-04-16_0002.jpg

Though temps had been warm for a whie in Wichita, a wintry storm arrived last week. The community “triangle garden” in our North Riverside neighborhood bent and bowed from the impact.

Ice covered branches of all the trees. Every exposed surface was coated. We walked the blocks near our home the morning after the storm to see several tall trees that had split from the weight of ice on their branches. The daffodils, it seemed, didn’t stand a chance.

But, several mornings ago, we passed the garden and noticed that the bent stems were again standing tall.

It is the hope of one small studio in one town that this spirit of healing and strength will emerge amidst the harsh winds of loss and violence that that swept over Boston yesterday. Heartfelt prayer is being pumped from the plains.
