Carlos, Kibbles and Their People

IMG_6860

We have a sweet dog who has kept me going through the loss of a parent, who has lovingly watched over our grandchildren from their infancy and who, just as your dog does for you, loves us unfailingly. Lexi is, most of the time, a well behaved dog.

One weekend, though, we boarded her at our trusted vet’s kennel while we worked with a bride in Kansas City. Upon our return, Hannah informed us that Lexi had figured out how to undo the clasp on the doors and had treated herself to free roam of the place on Saturday after staff went home. Instead of delivering this news with disdain, Hannah smiled her pretty, slightly shy smile. Her gentleness allowed us to feel okay about our dog’s misbehavior. And I’ve always remembered that.

Hannah, a beautiful young woman, is married to her high school sweetheart, Tyler. And Carlos and Kibbles round out their cute family.

Hannah and Tyler could have easily missed meeting each other. Hannah had always lived in Derby, KS and attended Derby schools. She moved right before her senior year in high school. “A tough time to move!” I commented. “It was hard. But it worked out,” she said with that sweet smile, and glanced at Tyler, whom she met during their shared senior year.

Tyler is a quiet guy who loves the outdoors. He is a fire sprinkler installer. And this, if you have ever lived through a fire, you realize is a hugely important job.

Hannah loves that Tyler enjoys the outdoors. And though Tyler appreciates the same quality in Hannah, his favorite thing about her is her eyes. They love hanging out together, especially outdoors. They love riding horses. But even a walk outside with their pals Carlos and Kibbles makes them happy.

Carlos is a lap dog, preferring to stay near his people. Kibbles, though, is spunky and outgoing and will gladly leave Hannah and Tyler for a bit if a good squirrel chase is in the offering.

I know Lexi is in good hands with Hannah. And that means the world to me. We should all be so lucky as to have a Hannah in our lives. I know that’s how Carlos and Kibbles feel. And Tyler, too.

Tacky Christmas Sweaters For the Win

Family-Portrait-Photography-in-Wichita_0665

“We want one picture in our tacky Christmas sweaters,” said client Jamie during our phone consultation to plan details of her family session. This was the first time I’d ever had a client say this to me. And these words indicate how fun Clint, Jamie and their little son, Graham, are. They are quick with a laugh and very easy to be around. It’s probably because they are so happy with each other.

Family-Portrait-Photography-in-Wichita_0667

They’ve been married several years. But they’ve known each other since attending the same high school. Back then they didn’t hang out. But when they ended up attending the same college, they became great friends. That solid base of friendship lasted until Jamie graduated, two years after Clint. Then they dated. She grew to love how compassionate Clint is. He fell in love with how she brings out the best in people. He could always make her laugh… even when she didn’t want to.

Now they have a happy, happy baby boy. A marriage. A home. A great life together.  A shared love of the Marvel Universe. Jamie’s favorite is Captain America. Clint’s fave is Spiderman. And Graham falls asleep surrounded by all these superheroes- and their superhero buddies- in his room each night.

And let’s not forget Watson.

Family-Portrait-Photography-in-Wichita_0668

Watson was found in a neglected state, and brought to Herndon’s Vet Clinic where Jamie works as a vet tech. She tried to find his owners/home. But to no avail. And he was sweet. And Clint loves dachshunds. And they’d talked about getting a dog… Some things are meant to be.

If you need Watson, he’ll no doubt be hanging out very close to his people, possibly snuggling under a blanket. If you need Graham, he’ll no doubt be smiling about something. If you need Clint and Jamie, they may be enjoying their ritual of “Couch Time,” just sitting together and discussing their day.

And really… your day could only get better by spending time with this family. Just look at the sweaters. These are fun people!

Wichita Wedding Photographers: A Country Wedding

It was all about the simple joy of marrying your best friend. Then kicking your heels up afterward! Wayne and Lisa tied the knot on a beach in Hawaii. But several weeks later they celebrated their marriage with loved ones at the Round Barn in Derby, Kansas. It was an elegant barn dance.

The wedding party willingly tromped out to the pasture for photos… and we LOVED that shoot. So much fun!

Wichita_Wedding_Photographers_2013-07-17_0014.jpg

Fresh air. Green fields. Blue sky with just the right amount of white fluffy clouds. Family. Friends. Laughter and dancing. The only thing that made this day better was capturing a bride and her besties wearing cowgirl boots underneath their gowns.

Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs!

Engagement Session: Heather and Jeff

Heather is a smart, tall, beautiful blonde who loves animals. Jeff is a handsome charmer who loves the Chiefs. Together they are a couple in love with a dog named Chief and a cat named Roscoe. Actually… they are both Chiefs fans and animal lovers.

We love working with these two. They are open to our ideas. AND they bring an eager energy and ideas of their own to a shoot.

They are getting married this October. We are thrilled for them and looking forward to capturing the moments of their wedding day. We hope to be their photographers for life! 🙂

Wichita Family Photographers: Chinese New Year

BL_8445

On Sunday, according to the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Dragon will draw to an end and make way for the Year of the Snake. At MTMP, we don’t know all the subtleties of the celebration of the Chinese New Year. But we LOVE celebrations! And this one lasts one full week. There will be fireworks, feasts and mah-jong games aplenty. Plus, we have these festive ornaments. So, happy Chinese New Year. May the Year of the Snake kiss you instead of bite you.

Wichita Family Photographers: Wayne and Lisa

It’s Kansas. The wind blows hard in Kansas. Crazy hard. Not every day. But when it does, the divas know to stay inside. We had a photo shoot scheduled with Wayne and Lisa. The strong wind showed up that day. This couple performed like champs. Not a shred of diva-ness. Plus, they’re fun to be around. All these factors combined to equal a very enjoyable session.

Wichita_Family_Photographers_20121207_0016

These crazy kids are getting married this year. In Hawaii! The wind there should treat them better. Not that Lisa is a stranger to any sort of weather condition. She flies to work each day. Yes — flies. From Wichita to Western Kansas where she and her employer, a heart surgeon, tend to patients. She may have won Marking the Moment Client with Most Interesting Job 2012. The only problem is that she has become accustomed to flight in a private plane and the trip to Hawaii may be a long one for her. But there is that wedding that will soften the blow. Not to mention Hawaii.

Here’s what we know about Wayne: He has worked at Koch Industries for 15 years. (He says they’ve been a good company to work for.) He doesn’t watch much TV. He considers himself blessed to be with Lisa. He does not like to shop. He has a very easy-going manner. And he’s quiet around photographers. 🙂

The two of them seem easy and comfortable together and we are glad to have worked with them. Congratulations on finding each other, Lisa and Wayne. And congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Don’t be strangers — you’re too fun to work with!

Wichita Family Photographers: Heidi

You know how at every party there is a person you don’t yet know, but you want to? You know, the one in the middle of the room with the warm smile and great laugh who is cracking everyone up. We met her recently. She’s a blast, and her name is Heidi. We photographed Heidi and her “baby” Ellie. Ellie is cute and has nice clothes. But Heidi is the one who gets the party started. 🙂

Wichita_Family_Photographers_20121208_0068

We are overplaying Heidi’s fun side for effect. She is a bright, able and intelligent banking supervisor. But during a photo shoot, it’s fun that we’re looking for, and Heidi was a delight.

She loves her dog, loves her twin sister, loves her family. And she is a beauty.

Wichita_Family_Photographers_20121208_0039

When we think of Heidi it is with a smile at how she climbed, romped, ran and even danced in the park during our shoot — despite a bitter wind and a frigid temperature. And she smiled and enjoyed herself the entire time. We enjoyed ourselves too. Because that’s the gift that these people bring to the party: Joy, fun and a great vibe.
