Wichita Baby Photographers: One Year Old!

When a boy turns one…

he should get some cake. But first he should get to play in a tent.

And have a conversation with an old pal.

And climb on furniture a bit.

And THEN… there should be cake. And he should be allowed to do whatever he wants with it.

Because… when you are just turning one it is adorable to grab cake by the handfuls. But try this when you are ten… and you get grounded.

Let’s all take a lesson from this birthday boy… celebrate where you are at in life today.

Expecting a baby? Know anyone who is? We have a First Year Baby Photography Program that documents milestone moments and stages from maternity to birthday cake smash. Call today for information: 316.648.7498

One Year Ago Today…

A year ago today we met a young man we would grow to love. Landon came into the world earlier than expected. Early enough that I was very worried. Early enough that he’d be whisked away to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit where he was hooked up to a myriad of wires, machines, and monitors. We had to remove all jewelry, scrub our hands and arms and sign forms each time we wanted to visit him- which we could only do two at a time and during very limited hours.

I was afraid. I prayed. A lot.

But within a couple days he was moved to a Guarded Care Unit where he remained for more than a week. This was a little less nerve-wracking. But… still I worried. It seemed a lot… all the wires and cords and beeping monitors… for a little baby. And it seemed like a lot for his Mom and Dad to deal with.

But Landon turns one year old today. And he is thriving. Strong. Happy. Loving. Funny. And very healthy.

And our hearts are full of gratitude.

Here is a little glimpse of what we saw as this sweet boy grew:

Landon at 3 Months, apparently thinking, “Aw, Mom… not in front of everyone.” 🙂

Landon at 6 Months, this smile is a constant. He is a happy, cheerful soul.

And, Landon nearing in on one year of life… rocking a vest and standing like a champ.

Happy Birthday, Landon. We are so glad to know you. We are so grateful for the privilege of loving you. You make us laugh. We can’t even imagine not having you in our lives. And we look forward to all that we’ll share together this year on your way to Year Two!

Wichita Family Photography: TBT/Sometimes You Hit the Jackpot

When we were a new studio, we met John and Casey. And Clive! And what a fortunate meeting that was!

Family-Portrait-Photography-in-Wichita_0310

Clive was three months old. Now…. we have a first year baby photography program. We shoot babies when they are: newborns, three months old, six months old, nine months old and then we celebrate their first birthday with a shoot that includes a cake smash. Out of all these shoots, the three month shoot is my least favorite. Here’s why: 3 month old humans are kinda dull. That being said, they are cute. And we all still love them. But… newborns are so squishably irresistable. At six months, they are sitting, interacting and babbling. At nine months they are pulling themselves up onto furniture- often scooting or crawling. And, c’mon, how fun are one-year olds?!! Soooooo fun! So, for me, three month sessions are okay, just not the rock star sessions of the first year program.

But Patrick and I enjoyed Clive’s session in Swanson Park. Clive slept through most of it, but his parents were a hoot. Casey is a charming combination of sarcastic and positive. John is quietly sweet and has sort of an intellectual vibe to him. So, spending time with the two of them leaves a person feeling amused… and a little smarter. Sign me up. So if this session had been a one time meeting, we’d have counted ourselves lucky. But, we have been able to shoot Casey and her family several times. Casey is what I call a “connector.” She is that person we all know who knows someone else who would be perfect for this or that. We have met several other clients through Casey. We love Casey! And we love shooting her family. On this Throwback Thursday, here is a look at some highlights.

There was the outdoor first birthday party at the Sedgwick County Park… with a pony!

And recently there was a vintage shoot and a Super Hero shoot in our studio

Last summer we partnered on a shoot for the Urban League. We would have shot their November wedding but we were out of town. lol

We are putting together a referral program in our studio. And I think we should call it “The Casey.” lol We are grateful to have met this young family and feel so lucky to watch their cute son grow. Sometimes you meet people and it’s fine, but nothing much comes of it. Sometimes you meet a connector and you click with them. And in those cases my advice is to express gratitude, give back to them, and enjoy the ride. If you’re lucky it could be a long one.

Are you a connector- someone who has family and friends all around? We would love to be your photographer, and lavish you with referral credits in our new program, so that you always have current photos.
